The Valley of the Shadow

Into the Valley of the Shadow

Psalm 23 KJV
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

We all, invariably, will enter into The Valley of the Shadow of Death and feel the dark tendrils of night close in about us. We will encounter the fears, the losses, and hushed whispers that accompany this passage through the gloomy mists. The Shadows are heavy, as if a cloak of incalculable weight has been draped over our already weary and stooped shoulders. The darkness is oppressive, it is a living breathing evil that looks to devour all who enter into its lair. The Valley of the Shadow, littered with the remains of those who have gone before, those who were bereft of light and any comfort, offers no hope to the traveller. The path, overgrown as it is, is treacherous and strewn with obstacles both known and unknown that seek to entangle and encumber.

The Nature of God and Word of Faith

The Nature of God

When we describe God we are doing so, even as redeemed people, from our fallen perspective. We are attempting to describe the Infinite and Transcendent with the finite and earth-bound, but God has not left us to wallow in our ignorance. He has revealed through creation ( natural revelation Psalm 19:1, Romans 1 ) and Scripture and Christ ( special revelation 2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 1 ). We can know who God is in a way that is real and reliable because He has condescended to reveal Himself to us.

But God though I was Dead

I once was Dead

We are all born into this world….every man, woman, and child…..we have no choice as to the time, the place, or the circumstances of our births. We were never asked or consulted as to the preferences that we may enjoy….Some of us were born wealthy…..some poor….good looking and not so good looking….some were born to grow skinny and tall while others were to remain short….and not so skinny….We are born with different skin colors, different tastes, and different ambitions…but we all have some things in common….we all….everyone without fail….we all are descended from the first man….our very first parent…Adam. Because of this….because of our relationship to Adam…because of the Fall of Man….we will all die….

Romans 5:12

[ Death through Adam and Life through Christ ] Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all men, because all sinned.

We will all one day pass from this life into the next….at any moment… any place….even quite possibly without warning: our time on this earth will be over…no second chances and no do overs….these bodies that so many of us prize will rot and decay and return to the elements that formed them

Genesis 3:19
For you are dust, and you will return to dust.”

There is however, a more sinister and pervasive death that came with the Fall and spread to all men…this death is often overlooked or downplayed….this death we all share in and unless remedied will, without fail….lead to our eternal damnation. What is this death? Am I really affected by it?

Ephesians 2:1

2 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins 2 in which you previously walked according to the ways of this world, according to the ruler who exercises authority over the lower heavens,[a] the spirit now working in the disobedient.[b] 3 We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us,[c] 5 made us alive with the Messiah even though we were dead in trespasses. You are saved by grace! 6 Together with Christ Jesus He also raised us up and seated us in the heavens, 7 so that in the coming ages He might display the immeasurable riches of His grace through His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift— 9 not from works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them.

Note how it starts…YOU!!! personal and accusatory…….think as though Paul were before you now…..the apostle to the gentiles….reading this letter he had penned….you sitting here….no matter where you are from…no matter who mommy and daddy may be….Your pedigree or lack thereof does not count….It does not matter who gramma knew or if grandpa built the church you were baptized in….you….me….everyone….we’re dead in our sins and trespasses.

What type of Death?

I have heard this death was only a metaphor….or hyperbole….or maybe even….possibly Paul was confused and did not really….truly….way down deep mean dead. Was Paul ignorant of the language that he was writing in? Was the Holy Spirit unable to properly communicate to Paul what He desired to be in Scripture? Paul did not say that we had a spiritual cold…..or our allergies were acting up….or that the flu bug was coming around and all we needed to do was get plenty of fluids and rest….NO!!!! He said we were NEKROS…the same root from which we get necrotic and necrosis….dead, without life…lacking in animation…..decaying….

Surely Paul was jesting….these people were not now dead nor had they been recently physically resurrected….How were they, and we…dead…. Paul was referring to spiritual death…without life….without hope….without Christ.

And you….you were dead in your sins and trespasses….we did not become sinners because we sinned…no….we sinned because we were born sinners.

Psalm 51:5

Indeed, I was guilty when I was born; I was sinful when my mother conceived me.

We have all fallen by the wayside….we have all missed the mark….As Paul wrote to the Romans…

Romans 3:10-12

10 as it is written:

“None is righteous, no, not one;

11 no one understands;

no one seeks for God.

12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;

no one does good,

not even one.”

this death…this sin….separates us from God….from the giver of life….the giver of hope…and yet we follow our own way…..which is really not our own way at all as scripture states

Proverbs 14:12

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

We travel this way…the course of this world…the way that seems so right…to so many……so often….everyone is doing it. The path is broad and easily traveled…..the is no resistance and the going is smooth….why not take it? Why not follow the crowds?

Like a parade going down main street we follow in unison….in lockstep with those around us…the natural course…we are among the many throngs of people….though we cannot see who is leading we love the music….the notes are pleasing to our sinful ears….the way seems right. We do not realize who is the conductor of this marching band…it is the prince of the power of the air…the devil…Satan…a liar and the father of them….that old dragon….the serpent in the garden. He blinds the eyes of those who follow after him….

but don’t blame him….Satan did not and cannot make you or I sin…we love it….we love the path of destruction and and gladly follow the pied piper of Hell. We take pleasure in the wicked deeds done around us and gloried in being a son of disobedience. We were lost and did not know it…..walking though inwardly dead.

The lusts of the flesh….this is what we want…when we want it…and how we want it. The lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life dominated our everyday existence. This flesh wants things….It wants to be satisfied, gratified, and glorified in our own eyes and the eyes of others. This flesh….this natural man….who so joyously and callously idolizes self, our wills, and our desires. It longs to be filled with every type and form of evil….every illicit relationship and sexual immorality….it wants power and feeds on greed….fame, fortune, and fantasies…the passions that drive our unregenerate selves ever onward into the darkness.

What are the works of the flesh? What types of things so easily beset us?

1 Corinthians 6:9

Don’t you know that the unrighteous will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be deceived: No sexually immoral people, idolaters, adulterers, or anyone practicing homosexuality,[d] 10 no thieves, greedy people, drunkards, verbally abusive people, or swindlers will inherit God’s kingdom

Galatians 5:19

Now the works of the flesh are obvious:[b][c] sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, 21 envy,[d] drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance—as I told you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But…but…but….I have never done these things…I have always done what I thought was right…..respected others and tried to do good….I would never commit murder…..I am not a fornicator…..I am good….That is speaking of those other people…those from the other side of town…those from the wrong side of the tracks…..not me….

Now wait a minute….you say you have never murdered? You have never committed adultery? Have you ever been jealous or caused dissension? What standard of goodness are you using to judge yourself? To whom are you comparing yourself with? What subjective standard are you employing to deem yourself righteous?…..What about your thought life? What about those secret desires that you have entertained? The wicked things we have wished for but never could obtain….what about those things?

Jesus had this to say about the extent of and what constituted sin…

Matthew 5:21-22

21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother[c] will be liable to judgment; whoever insults[d] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell[e] of fire.

If you hate someone….if you look at a woman guys…or a man, ladies and undress them with your eyes and wish that you could have them…you are guilty….your thoughts have condemned you.

But it was only once…..just one little sin…..I don’t think it really matters that much…does it?

James had this to say:

James 2:10

For whoever keeps the entire law, yet fails in one point, is guilty of breaking it all.

One offense makes you guilty of all….perfection is required…the standard is God almighty…not your neighbor and not yourself… must be as righteous as Christ…perfect…holy….and without sin….

But we are by nature children of wrath…..unable to keep the law……..unable to be perfect….deserving of Hell and eternal condemnation…..except…..we run into two tiny words that changes everything…

though You were dead in your trespasses and sins…
But God though You walked according to the course of this world…
But God though You walked according to the prince of the power of the air….
But God While you were all fulfilling the desires of the flesh…
But God While you who were by Nature children of wrath….
But God….Who commended His love towards us…that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us Romans 5:8

but God who loved the world in this manner….that He gave his only begotten son that all those who believe would not perish but have eternal life john 3:16

But God, who is rich in mercy…..mercy completely undeserved….even while dead in our sins He made us alive….taking that old person andi giving us new life….He caused us to sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus……we who believe are spiritually with Him….united to Him…in newness of life…..we are new creatures, behold all things have become new. But How….

how did this miracle happen? How did that which once was dead gain life? By grace…..His unmerited favor…..through faith, the substance of things hoped and the evidence of things not seen….it was not of ourselves….we were dead remember? It is the gift of God….we are saved by grace through faith….it is not of ourselves….

Titus 3:5

He saved us — not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

No one…not me, or you, no one…will stand before Jesus Christ on the day of judgment and declare:

I was smart enough, I was good enough, and dog gone it people like me….God will owe no man….when we stand before the throne it will be by His grace…..not because of our decisions…though we make them…..not because of our prayers….though we must pray them….but only by and through His grace will we make it.

Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me..y.I once was lost but now am found…was blind but now I see.

There is a question that remains to be asked however. Who is the us…the you…the we’s spoken of? Who has received this grace by which we are saved?

Turn back one Chapter to Ephesians 1

3 who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavens.-remember we are seated with Him there

4 For He chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in His sight.[b] In love[c] 5 He predestined us to be adopted through Jesus Christ for Himself,

7 We have redemption in Him through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses

13 When you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed in Him, you were also sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.

The us are those who have been adopted into His family, those who were predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son before the foundation of the world, those who were chosen according to His will and His purpose, those who have trusted the message of truth, believed and been sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise…..

that is who the we, you, and us are…..believers chosen by the will of God for His purpsoe…saved by grace through faith…faith in the finished work of Christ…we are no longer children of wrath because He who knew no sin became sin for us….He bore the wrath of the Father…..and reconciled us to Himself by the Cross of Calvary…We are the redeemed, cleansed by the blood of the lamb.

But what if you have never trusted in Him…..if you have never repented and believed…you are still in your sins and by nature a child of wrath. You are lost, undone, and without hope in this world and the world to come. You have no life in you and you will stand before God on that day and give an account of the life you have lived in defiance of His goodness and the truth you have suppressed in unrighteousness.

You are not good enough, you are not smart enough, and you are not strong enough to ever give yourself the spiritual life necessary to come to God…….you are Dead in your sins. If you have not been declared righteous, if you have not been justified, if you are not a member of the family of God…do not take another breath before humbling yourself and repenting before a Holy God. Fall on your knees and pray for mercy for whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Call on Him…not because you are good enough….call on Him because the Gospel…the proclomation of the sinless life of Jesus Christ….His death…His burial….and His resurrection for the forgiveness of sins is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe…to the Jew first and also the Gentile.

God bless and Keep the Faith

The Word of ( non ) Faith and the Atonement

The Word of Faith and the Atonement

As stated in Hebrews 9:22, without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins and it has been so from the beginning…..God, after the Fall provided Adam and Eve with skins from innocent animals as a covering for their shame ( Genesis 3 ). It is seen in the Old Testament sacrificial system that was given as a type and shadow of the ultimate Sacrifice. The reconciliation of His people to Himself is paramount to the Biblical narrative and finds its culmination in the work of Jesus Christ.

Matthew in his Gospel declared that Jesus came to save his people from their sins ( Matthew 1:21 ), John says that the Father has given those who will be saved to Him ( John 6:39 ), and Paul in Ephesians says that we all, both Jew and Gentile, are now the people of God through faith ( Ephesians 2 ). So how was the Atonement, our salvation, wrought?

Word of Faith and Atonement

Their views on these two subjects will invariably also affect how they believe the Atonement was secured. Since faith does not have an object ( the Person of Christ ) and all men are little Messiahs….how could the Word of Faith doctrinal teachings on the Atonement not be skewed from the orthodox perspective?

Copeland et all have said the following in regards to the Cross and my Saviour:

He allowed the devil to drag Him into the depths of hell as if He were the most wicked sinner who ever lived … Every demon in hell came down on Him to annihilate Him … [They] tortured Him beyond anything that anybody has ever conceived … In a thunder of spiritual force, the voice of God spoke to the death-whipped, broken, punished spirit of Jesus … [in] the pit of destruction, and charged the spirit of Jesus with resurrection power! Suddenly His twisted, death-wracked spirit began to fill out and come back to life … He was literally being reborn before the devil’s very eyes. He began to flex His spiritual muscles … Jesus Christ dragged Satan up and down the halls of hell … Jesus … was raised up a born-again man … The day I realized that a born-again man had defeated Satan, hell, and death, I got so excited … !” (“The Price of it All,” Believer’s Voice of Victory, September 1991, p. 4).
Copeland- “It wasn’t the physical death on the cross that paid the price for sin … anybody could do that.” (What Satan Saw on the Day of Pentecost)
Copeland- “When Jesus cried, ‘It is finished!’ He was not speaking of the plan of redemption. There were still three days and nights to go through before He went to the throne. … Jesus’ death on the cross was only the beginning of the complete work of redemption.” (“Jesus—Our Lord of Glory,” Believer’s Voice of Victory, April 1982, p. 3)
Jesus’ “rebirth” in hell. “[I]n hell He [Jesus] suffered for you and for me. The Bible says hell was made for Satan and his angels. It was not made for men. Satan was holding the Son of God there illegally … The trap was set for Satan and Jesus was the bait.” (Walking in the Realm of the Miraculous, 1979, p. 77)
Hinn- “He [Jesus] who is righteous by choice said, ‘The only way I can stop sin is by Me becoming it. I can’t just stop it by letting it touch Me; I and it must become one.’ Hear this! He who is the nature of God became the nature of Satan where He became sin!” (TBN, 12/1/90).
Joyce Meyer “There is no hope of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth I am presenting. You cannot go to heaven unless you believe with all your heart that Jesus took your place in hell” (In her 1991 booklet, The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make
Meyer-“His spirit went to hell because that is where we deserved to go.” (The Most Important Decision You Will Ever Make 1991, p.36.).
Hagin-“Physical death would not remove our sins. He tasted death for every man – spiritual death. Jesus is the first person ever to be born again. Why did HIS spirit need to be born again? Because it was estranged from God.” (“The Name Of Jesus”, Kenneth E. Hagin, pp. 29-30.)]
Frederick Price-“Do you think that the punishment for our sin was to die on a cross? If that were the case, the two thieves could have paid your price. No, the punishment was to go into hell itself and to serve time in hell separated from God … Satan and all the demons of hell thought that they had Him bound and they threw a net over Jesus and dragged Him down to the very pit of hell itself to serve our sentence.” (“Ever Increasing Faith Message”, Frederick K. Price, June 1980 Audio).

By diminishing Christ’s vicarious sacrifice, by looking elsewhere other than the Cross for our Atonement, and by elevating Satan throughout the Passion, the Word of Faith teachers have relegated Christ to an afterthought and set up an idol suitable to their own appetites.

Further Word of Faith Heresy

One of the concepts the Word of Faith spout, that is clearly unbiblical, is that anyone could have made the sacrifice necessary in the forgiving of sins. This view, based upon an aberrant belief as to the Nature of Christ, in that, instead of being the Divine, Eternal, and Co-existent Second Person of the Godhead who came in the Flesh to redeem His people for Himself, leads to the belief that Christ is an exalted man, an adopted son, or that He consist of two persons simultaneously, or worse yet, that anyone could have done it. In case Copeland, a Word of Faith Leader, and others are unaware of this, it is rank heresy to proclaim that anyone, other than Jesus, could have perfectly, innocently, and vicariously died on the Cross for the remission of sins.

God, in His Infinite Wisdom and Omniscience, because of which He knows all things and causes all things to come to pass through His Divine Providence, stated in Genesis 3 that the coming Messiah would crush the head of Satan though His heal would be bruised. It was further revealed that through faithful Abraham that all the nations of the Earth would be blessed ( Genesis 18:18 ) and that there would be a prophet greater than Moses that would come (Deuteronomy 18:15, Acts 3:22 ). It was also declared in Holy Scripture, by the prophet Isaiah, that He would be Immanuel, God with us ( Isaiah 7:14 ) and that He would be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace….( Isaiah 9:6 ).

We read in the New Testament that in the Beginning was the Word and that Word was with God and the Word was God ( John 1 ), that Jesus and the Father are One ( John 10:30 ), that before Abraham was I AM ( John 8:58 ), and that He is the Alpha and Omega ( Revelation 1:8 ). We can know from Scripture that Jesus, as the Second Person of the Trinity, was no mere man, and as such was the only one uniquely qualified to pay for the sins of humanity.

More Problems with the Word of Faith

There is another problem with the Word of Faith Movement’s view of the Atonement and that is when it was accomplished. The Cross was God’s plan, His doing, His design, and by Him it was brought to fruition. This in no way denies the use, by God, of sinful men to bring about His purposes. It was through the wickedness of those involved that the Cross was possible, but it was no happy accident in the economy of God and Satan was merely a tool to be used by the Almighty; not the sovereign of Hell torturing the Christ at his pleasure.

Take a quick look at the hand of Providence in the Cross:

Psalm 22: 13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. 14I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. 15My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Isaiah 50: 6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

Acts 2:23-24 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.

God, not Satan, was fully and ultimately in control, despite the Word of Faith teachings, and there was no further punishment needed after the shedding of blood on Mount Calvary. Christ told the thief that today they would be together in paradise ( Luke 23:43 ), had prayed in the Garden that the cup ( a symbol of God’s wrath ) would pass from Him ( Matthew 26:39 ), that into your ( the Father’s ) hands I commend my spirit ( Luke 23:46 ), and very importantly that “ IT IS FINISHED “ ( John 19:30 ).

The wrath of God was poured out upon the innocent Christ on the Cross and not in the bowels of Hell at the hands of the Devil and his minions. Make note: Satan was not then, is not now, nor will he ever reign in Hell. You need to remove that pagan concept from your mind as it has no foundation in a Christian World view. “ It is Finished “ means precisely that……all that was needed to secure our salvation was done from His birth to His death: including His active and passive obedience.

Copeland’s Wormy Spirit

[Demons] tortured him beyond anything that anybody has ever conceived… [Christ’s] emaciated, poured out, little, wormy spirit down in the bottom of that thing [hell].” – Kenneth Copeland, “What Happened from the Cross to the Throne,” cassette #02-0017, 1990)

Contrary to what Copeland claims, Jesus did not become a “ wormy poured out little spirit “ and neither did He need to be born again. He ( Jesus ) never took on the nature of Satan, as claimed by Hinn and others, as Christ is fully God and fully man….not fully God, fully man, and fully Satan on the Cross. This blasphemous assertion without any Biblical basis is enough to turn our hearts and heads from them.

Paul, in the book of Colossians, tells us unequivocally that on the Cross, not in Hell, Jesus made an open show and put to shame the powers of darkness all the while nailing the handwriting of ordinances against us to it:

Colossians 2:14-16 English Standard Version (ESV)

14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

It was not in Hell that our salvation was won, as touted by Word of Faith proponents, but upon the Cross where the wrath of God against sin was poured out on my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. The Holy one of Israel did not see corruption ( Psalm 16:10 ) and tasted death for all believers ( Hebrews 2:9 ) so that we should have life.

It is by the precious blood of Christ that we are forgiven and brought into the Family of God. I thank God for the Lamb who willingly went to the slaughter on my behalf so that I would not have to….taking my sin upon Himself and placing His righteousness upon me.

Who is responsible for salvation?

Enns and Inerrancy is Scripture

As another week approaches there is a controversy swirling around the home school movement, regarding Dr Enns, that may have gone unnoticed by many of you. It is not solely about Young Earth Creationism ( YEC ), although that is a part, or Old Earth Creationism ( OEC ), but about the inerrancy of Scripture and how we deal with such disputes in the church and the ministries surrounding it. What sparked this debate was The Great Home Schooling Conventions board deciding to rescind ( fire ) Dr. Ken Ham’s and Answers In Genesis’ ( AIG ) invitation to speak at their conferences due to Dr. Ham’s comments regarding Dr Enns.

Dr Enns and Old Testament Myth

Matthew 18:6

but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

Dr Enns, who wrote the 2005 book, Inspiration and Incarnation: Evangelicals and the Problems of the Old Testament, which emphasized the human nature of Scripture over and against the divine, was another speaker at the conference being held in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr Enns also has written that the Genesis accounts are firmly grounded in ancient myth, which he has defined as:

“ an ancient, pre-modern, pre-scientific way of addressing questions of ultimate origins in the form of stories. “

While doing this he has not clarified what in the Old Testament Scriptures, most notably Genesis, can be viewed historically or if any of it can. He has went on record as saying that God placed errors in the Bible by design and has therefore redefined the concept of inerrancy. He has been videoed saying that Adam is in the Old Testament and the Apostle Paul should have left Him there. These statements, among others, is what Dr. Ham had issue with and spoke about publicly.

Dr. Ham Responds to Peter Enns

Dr. Ham and AIG are well known for their literal and historical perspective of the book of Genesis, Biblical inerrancy, and YEC which has led to many other controversies of their own through the years. As seen previously these two views are in stark contrast to each other. Dr. Ham listed in His blog some other statements by Dr. Enns that are problematic. They include:

“ In my last post I suggested that the Adam story could be viewed symbolically as a story of Israel’s beginnings, not as the story of humanity from ground zero. “
“ There is also considerable external evidence that works against the ‘ just read it literally’ mentality “
“ This is a problem because it is at odds with everything that we know about the past from the natural sciences and cultural remains “
Our Origins In Doubt?

These statements made by Dr Enns are in truth a departure from what many consider the Historic and orthodox Christian Faith and Dr. Ham should be applauded for saying as much. Our origins play a vial role in who we are ( created in God’s image ), what is wrong with humanity and this world ( The Fall, subsequent Curse, and original sin ), and where we are going ( The Triumph over sin by the Promised Seed, the Messiah ). Any attack upon them is an attack upon God and what He has revealed to us through His Word. Adam was not simply a mythological or symbolical concept formed by the authors of Scripture and found in the Old Testament, but is an integral part of our understanding of theology. Adam is found in such diverse places as:

I Chronicles 1:1 he is listed in the Genealogy from the beginning
Hosea 6:7 God tells Israel they have transgressed the covenant just as Adam did
Luke 3:38 He is listed in the Genealogy of Christ
Matthew 19:4 Jesus said in the beginning He created them male and female ( an allusion to Adam and Eve )
Romans 5:14 details that death reigned from Adam
I Corinthians 15:45 the first man Adam became a living soul
1 Timothy 2:13 for it was Adam who was created first
Jude 1:14 chronicles Adam in another genealogy
These Scriptures were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and as such we should take seriously what they say.

Defending Dr Enns

To defend their decision the Convention issued a statement saying:

“ Dr. Ham was removed for his spirit and not for his message….Dr. Ham’s spirit toward our attendees was not gracious. Dr. Ham’s spirit toward other speakers was unprofessional…Our board takes seriously the admonition of Jesus in John 13:35 , “ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye love one another. “

This in a nutshell is their reasoning behind Dr. Ham’s dismissal from the current and all future conferences, but what of the Conference board’s cherry picking and salvaging scripture to justify their expulsion of Dr. Ham and AIG? The Board evidently takes showing love seriously but they do not take discernment as seriously ( 1 John 4:1 ), or to be wary of wolves ( Matthew 7:15, Acts 20:29 ), or our admonition to judge righteously ( John 7:24 ). Should we commit the future of the home schooling movement to such individuals?

Will the dominant view become one of liberal theology with a low view of Scripture or will we strive to present the Truth as revealed by God through His Holy Word? My wife and I are Christian home schooling parents and as such this issue lands directly in our front yard. If high profile speakers such as Dr. Enns are allowed to disseminate their views to unsuspecting parents what will become of the next generation of children using there curriculum?

We are called to be salt and light, to both preserve our culture and to expose the darkness within by using a righteous judgment. By rightly dividing the Word of Truth we can discern errant doctrines and the danger they present the Body of Christ. Dr. Ham exposed the views of a major conference speaker, Dr Enns, and for his pains was expelled from the conference. Dr. Ham and AIG should receive heartfelt applause and given all our support for their efforts to hold to the fundamental truths of the Bible.

What do you think? Should the conference re invite AIG and Dr. Ham? Should home schooling parents remove their support of the Conference? Is this all a much ado about nothing?

Sanctity of Life and Abortion

The convenient murder and child sacrifice of millions… we sit idly by and watch…more concerned with the Super Bowl than the wanton slaughter of the innocents. How dare we claim to uphold the Holiness of God Almighty when we allow this to happen…when our clothes are drenched in the blood of helpless babes….and we elect leaders who openly promote it? What have we done? What are we going to do to stem the tide of convenient murder and child sacrifice?

“First, Moloch, horrid King, besmeared with blood
Of human sacrifice, and parents’ tears;
Though, for the noise of drums and timbrels loud,
Their children’s cries unheard that passed through fire
To his grim idol. Him the Ammonite
Worshiped in Rabba and her watery plain,
In Argob and in Basan, to the stream
Of utmost Arnon. Nor content with such
Audacious neighbourhood, the wisest heart
Of Solomon he led by fraud to build
His temple right against the temple of God
On that opprobrious hill, and made his grove
The pleasant valley of Hinnom, Tophet thence
And black Gehenna called, the type of Hell.”
– Paradise Lost, i. 391-405

Our children sacrificed. A whole generation wiped away because five unelected judges deemed privacy a sacred right allowing us to take the life of the unborn.

Jeremiah 32:35

English Standard Version (ESV)

35 They built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

Have we as a nation caused our sons and daughter to ” pass through the fire ” for convenience sake? Have we become calloused to the sanctity of human life or are we inebriated with the illusion of our own godhood to the point we can now equivocate on how many lives we can afford to offer up?

Leviticus 18:21

English Standard Version (ESV)

21 You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.

The LORD, He is God, and and HE places value upon life because HE created us in HIS image.

Mark 9:42

” Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.

If causing one to stumble brings such a strong rebuke what of the wanton slaughter of over 40 million pre-born lives?

Convenient Murder and Child Sacrifice?

Molech: “A detestable Semitic deity honored by the sacrifice of children, in which they were caused to pass through or into the fire. Palestinian excavations have uncovered evidences of infant skeletons in burial places around heathen shrines

The sacrifice of infants is an abomination and a stench in the nostrils of God and is a festering sore on our nation’s soul. Our leaders, whom we have elected, do not listen….they pander to the crowd’s ears that they are tickling at the moment, making sweeping promises that we have far to often fallen for.

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,The fruit of the womb is a reward

Children are a blessing from the LORD and a reward to be cherished in His sight. How we have fallen: to equate success and independence with the freedom to destroy life at will.

Stand up. Take account of the situation. What is the life of a child worth? Do you call yourself a child of God and promote and defend legal abortion? What have we done to curb the tide of convenient murder and child sacrifice in this once great nation? Not enough. Where can you go to learn more?

From Turretin on the Atonement

For whom did Christ die? Did He die for all men equally or was their a special intent in the Father sending the Son?

Some thoughts from Francis Turretin

I. The mission and death of Christ”

“are restricted to a limited number—to his people, his sheep, his friends, his Church, his body; and nowhere extended to all men severally and collectively. Thus, Christ “is called Jesus, because he shall save his people from their sins,” (Matthew 1:21). He is called the Saviour of his body, (Ephesians 5:23). “The good shepherd who lays down his life for the sheep,” (John 10:15), and “for his friends,” (John 15:13). He is said “to die—that he might gather together in one, the children of God that were scattered abroad,” (John 11:52). It is said that Christ “hath purchased the Church [or his flock] with his own blood,” (Acts 20:28; Ephesians 5:25–26). If Christ died for every one of Adam’s posterity, why should the Scriptures so often restrict the object of his death to a few? How could it, with propriety, “be said absolutely that Christ is the Saviour of his people and of his body, if he is the Saviour of others also? How could it in the same way be said that he laid down his life for his sheep, for the sons of God, and for the Church, if, according to the will and purpose of God, he died for others also? Would this be a greater proof of his love and a firmer ground of consolation?”
